What Is Flight's FOR ALL NEEDS SOCCER PROGRAM?
Ascension Flight's For All Needs (FANs) Soccer Program is a community-based training program for all athletes with intellectual, emotional, and or physical disabilities. The program strives to provide soccer opportunities (the opportunity of soccer) for players to develop at their own pace in a safe, fun, and supportive/inclusive environment.
Why FANs program? Soccer players need FANs (Supporters); you, us, and everyone else are our players' #1 FANs! In addition to this, FAN is an acronym for our newly rebranded For All Needs program. Our vision for our FANs program is so that we can cater our programming to players of ALL needs; we might not get there in the Spring or Fall of 2026, but by taking small steps each season, we hope to reach a place where soccer is enjoyed by ALL.
Flight's FANs program will return in March, 2026, with 7 sessions. The intention for this program is to start slow and build the pool of players who want to attend these events consistently; hopefully in 2026/27 we can host a sustained program that spans the soccer season for multiple months.
How will the program work? All registered FANs players will be paired up with a FANs Buddy. A FANs buddy is a player at Ascension Flight Soccer Club. Each week we bring in new buddies for the FANs players to work with. Our intention of bringing in buddies from our Flight Soccer teams is to provide these young people with moments of social and psychological growth that they would never have been able to experience. The buddy will then support the FANs player throughout every moment of the session, making sure they have fun, touch the soccer ball lots of times and most of all, kept safe during the 1 hour program.
